Spring in Bedford

Monday, 25 March 2024 10:50

A sunny Sunday morning along the Embankment in Bedford makes for a lovely spring walk. The town always puts on a display of flowers through the year and the spring blossoms are popping out, including my first tulips of the year. I assume the gardener responsible for the tulips has been fired for allowing a rogue pink blossom in the orange bed. (I hope not!) I was pleased to see a few people out enjoying the day and feeding the swans. I have commented before about Bedford and the fact that a small provincial town has such a wonderful and expansive riverside embankment. The main river drops down to the South and this stretch along the Embankment is managed and used widely for rowing. There is an additional water sports facility at the weir where the river drops, if you like your canoe slalom, named for local boy Etienne Stott. He won a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics and his gold post box is tucked around by the town hall.
