Standing Tall in Cambridge

Saturday, 30 March 2024 14:39

Over the years it has been common for charities to work with artists to create interesting sculptures which are distributed around local towns and cities. This spring Cambridge is hosting giraffes in an event called Standing Tall in support of Break, a charity that helps youngsters when they leave care. A good cause and an interesting choice of animal. This time there are two groups, tall ones by artists and small ones decorated by local schools, another good idea. My photo buddy Paul and I have been to a few of these statue hunts and this one was a certainty. I downloaded the app which put a little money in the charity coffers and allowed us to navigate around and record our sightings. We went to Cambridge on Thursday and did the city centre. We managed 72 out of the 93 before running out of energy and a little time. A sunny morning gave way to a wet afternoon with a nice lunch in between. This is not a “catalogue” of statues but simply a small selection which grabbed my attention showing their place in Cambridge. I have captioned the selected installations and if you feel the need you can then bid for one you like in the auction. The headline shot of the information stand was actually manned by a lovely young man from Turin who was well wrapped up and dodged out of the way for our photos. This giraffe is called Carat by Daniel Bland.
