France 2024 Day 10 "Lots" to See

Monday, 15 April 2024 20:42

Time for a nice gentle day exploring the Lot and Célé valleys just east of Cahors. Both rivers meander through valleys with steep cliffs and the Lot drops through a handful of locks and weirs. The highlight was expected to be St Cirq Lapope and it was not disappointing but a surprise was the Célé valley around Cabrarets including a super little boulangerie/patisserie/sandwicherie opposite a mill under a chateau, ideal for an early lunch. A little down river was a planned visit to a quaint, and slightly disturbing museum, Le Musee d’Insolite. A chat with the owner, a character, confirmed he had assembled the bizarre collection during 36 years. Most of the objects have plays on words in French which mostly passed me by but a bus with pigs looking out I got. “Transporcs Touristique”. I have not included a picture of this exhibit as the website size does not make clear that the heads are pigs. After St Cirq I cruised back along the Lot stopping at Bouzie for a walk along the incredible towpath. This left me plenty of time to have a walk around Cahors before settling down to edit today’s snaps in time to feast on another wonderful Logis dinner. The headline picture if from the river Lot towpath at Bouzies as is the one below and I have followed with a heron at the Bouzies lock..

This is typical of the Célé valley with the car for scale followed by a few shots from Cabrarets.

Now the Musee d'Insolite

I got the joke on this one. “Watch the birdie"

What a cool place and a lovely old guy.

The next few are from St Cirq Lapope high above the river Lot

So back to Cahors and a very brief glimpse of the centre starting with another look at the amazing Pont Valentre

The next couple of shots try to illustrate the scale of this construction. Just find the people and you will get it

Now a couple of shots in the city

And finally my hotel and a very comfortable editing suite before the sun went down on a lovely day
