France 2024 Day 13 Stormy Weather

Friday, 19 April 2024 12:57

Yesterday was not a great day. My plan had been a jaunt up to 7000ft in the Pyrrenees to look at the solar furnace at Font Romeu but a look out of the window immediately cast doubts as the rain was lashing down. A check on the weather radar showed bands of heavy rain sweeping south and the forecast confirmed 2ºC and snow at Font Romeu. Not a sensible idea to stick to my plan. The back up was to look at some Cathar fortresses in the foothills but with the weather there was not much to see. I went to Rennes-Chateau and its pretty church, then Montsigur lost in the clouds and then Foix for a bit of excerise and to see the chateau there. Not a write off but that came next. On my way to Toulouse I continued to feel a little ropey as I had the day before but then the world fell out of my bottom! Instead of reaquainting myself with Toulouse and prehaps enjoying a cassoulet I have been in the hotel keeping close to the bathroom. My drugs do not appear to be having the desired effect. If I don’t feel better later I will abort the trip and head back to the channel, assuming I am OK for that. The headline picture is at Montsigur and you can see why they built up there. Apparently there is a stunning view.

Here is the best view I’ve managed of the old city of Carcassonne.

Now a few from Rennes-Chateau

Now downtown Foix
