France 2024 Day 5 Heading South

Wednesday, 10 April 2024 18:58

Today was a traveling and visiting day heading south from Amboise to Brive-Le-Galliard with a stop with Susan and Charlie in Chalais in Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin. A bit of a mouthful but a lovely change from the flat agricultural land which blessed the first half of today’s journey. It was a chilly 3ºC when I got up this morning so set the car to warm up for my departure. There was mist around over small lakes and the river Cher at Montrichard and some banks of fog. The three pictures below attempt to illustrate this. The two vans passed me heading into a fog bank with the second one, at the last minute deciding his overtake of the first van was probably a bad idea. I was doing the speed limit of 80kph for the record. Susan and Charlie live in a charming farmhouse up a little lane which I found at the second attempt. As there are no road names Google in the Tesla said “Where?”. We had a good chat and a lovely lunch surrounded by their happy dogs, including a day visitor golden retriever to help a friend. Obligatory “I was there” photos were taken. From there to Brive was through lovely gentle rolling countryside through neat villages and fields of hops. D roads France, despite some peculiar speed limits, is the joy it always was. I was hoping this would be the case when I planned this visit. I needed a charge on the way, total journey 375km, so stopped at Chateauroux across the road from the airport. 8 stalls and just me. I also charged at Brive to get me ready for tomorrow in the grounds of the Mercure where there were 15 stalls. There were 6 Model 3, concluding mine, and 1 Model Y. Interesting 4 of the Model 3, including mine, were the 2024 model. The headline picture was taken in Lanouaille between Chalais and Brive.

War memorials from very different wars, Algeria and the Great War, in the village of Savignac-Lédrier, again between Chalai and Brive

Fields of hops near Juillac about half way to Brive

The gentle Perigord countryside

Charlie did the honours with Susan and I. They are both doing well despite a little flooding. (more than a little but on the mend)

Here are a couple of charging shots to finish off today’s entry.
