France 2024 Day 8 Vinyards, Chateaux and Big Rivers

Today could have been hard work and a little stressful based on the distance travelled. I chose to base myself at Brive-Le-Galliard for two reasons. First I like to spend a few days in the same place, at least two, and second there is a Tesla Supercharger station with 18 chargers very close to the hotel. The furthest west I planned to go was Monbazillac  just south of Bergerac about 125km from my hotel. The return wiggles between interesting places for another 175km. The route was up hill and down dale so not sure how long it would take and how efficient the car would be. No problems on either score. The roads were largely empty with plenty of straight sections and, even with A/C in the car (it hit 30ºC this afternoon), the car demonstrated a working range of 540 km (335 miles) on a full charge. Montbazillac was recommended and was worth a visit. It sits on a hill looking north to Bergerac across extensive vineyards. The chateau is nothing special, except for the excellent audiovisuals, but the site is excellent and your visit includes a little glass of wine all for €11.40. I am glad I made the trip. A large part of the route followed the Vezere river with interesting bridges and a chateau or two along the way. For the return leg I picked two medieval towns Issigeac and Monpazier as stopping points, the latter being one of the fortified towns around here. Then it was a run along the Dordogne river via the chateaux at Beynac and Castelnaud, the latter a popular spot for weekend canoeists. Then back to Brive for my final evening neither exhausted or stressed. Lets start at Montbazillac.
