Willington

Willington is the location for a couple of Tudor buildings including the dovecote below. It is a short walk down towards the river Great Ouse where the old varsity railway line passed between Oxford and Cambridge. There is quite a history of transport here. Before the railway opened in 1862 the river was a major trade route mainly with sailing ships. The railway took all of the business and the river subsequently silted up. The railway closed in 1968 and now there is the A421 Bedford Bypass which opened around 2016. The next step is that there is a plan to recreate the varsity line! Maybe the river will return as the main trade route. “I don’t think so”. This is serious dog walking territory now. I am not sure that the little bag is a suitable remembrance gift for Connie and Den but maybe that is just me.
