Edinburgh Castle

One of the most dramatic landmarks in Scotland is Edinburgh Castle standing on a volcanic plug at the head of the Royal Mile. It commands wonderful views of the city and across the Forth to Fife. That is when it is not drizzly. It was on Saturday but it did not dampen our day. I went with my sister Anne, Douglas, niece Katie and her two lovely little ones, Jack and Rosie. It was the first time I have been to the castle since leaving Edinburgh, to follow my career, in 1974. Visits are more organised now with online ticketing and a comfortable cafe all geared up for the ever increasing visitor numbers. Here are a few snaps and here is a link to short video capturing the firing of the 1 o’clock gun, a popular item on the tour. On the way back down past one of the three British camera obscura we ran into a few owls before grabbing an ice cream on the way back to the car. Brilliant.
