BRIAN REID PHOTOGRAPHER

An old Favourite

It was nice to spend a warm sunny day at the unique National Trust Lyvedon estate. Paul and I enjoyed the walk and captured some intertesting photos. As you will see Mr Langshaw gets down and into his photos when we were attracted to the cowslip meadow. :-) The ruin has an interesting story. Check out Sir Thomas Tresham and his link to the gunpowder plot. This was his planned house while under house arest in Ely that was never completed. The site has been developed over the years that I have been visiting and the manor house below is now part of the NT site which now includes a nice little courtyard cafe. Here are a few pictures from the day including a few from the orchard. One of the things which attracts me here is that Lyvedon is less than 5 miles from the main cross country highway in this part of the world, the A14, it is around 5 miles from Corby, around 8 miles from Kettering and about 12 miles from Peterborough yet it is completely rural. You do not hear cars, trains or even aeroplanes, just the occasional swoosh of gliders from the Welland Gliding Club. Not a bad way to spend a sunny Sunday.
