Warm Wicken Fen

Another place I do not visit often enough is thre National Trust Nature Reserve at Wicken Fen.The summer nature trail is currently open as the tracks are dry enough. It is a long walk for me in high summer temperatures but worth it for the butterflies, dragonflies and other assorted insects close to the path like the ruddy darter above. Enjoy a slection of these mini beasts encountered along the way. There are peacock, green-veined white, gatekeeper, ringlet and brimstone butterflies darters and an emperor dragonfly, 7 spot ladybird, buff tailed bumblebee, many hoverflies and the odd soldier beetle for good measure. I was not quick enough for the small copper and small skipper butteflies. The final shot is taking a very quick look into a wasps nest, obeying the warning signs. :-)
