Narvik to Leknes (Lofoten)

I hear myself say that I will not complain about the weather and as a general rule I do not. Then it comes to visiting Lofoten which, I'm told, has some of the most spectacular scenery, not just in Norway but in the world. To enjoy scenery you actually need to see it. There were still vestiges of low cloud hanging around Narvik is I headed, essentially, west with a lot of wiggles around fjords. The picture looking back at Narvik, above, sums up the morning conditions. There were even spells when the sun broke through, short but promising. As I approached Lofoten the wind picked up and the rain started, not a little shower mind you and effectively the scenery was obscured. I am not going to complain about the weather but let’s say it put a dampener on this afternoon’s sight seeing. Did I mention it is also cold not including the sizeable wind chill. As I write this the wind can be heard buffeting the hotel from time to time. I really am out on the North Atlantic coast so what should I expect. Fingers crossed for tomorrow and I have plenty of warm clothes. So ride along with me on a less than perfect drive. There was an amazing amount of commercial traffic and, for a stretch, road works with either traffic lights or convoy system every 5 kilometres. So stop start, dodge the trucks was the order of the day. The first eight images were before I crossed the bridge to Lofoten and I was happy with. I have posted some pictures from Lofoten but do not be fooled these are the handful where there was actually something to see, even a rainbow when I was having a walk while the car charged at Svolvaer. I’ll finish with a view from my hotel room window after an ejoyable dinner. I was so glad that the restaurant was open, a slight surprise, until I noticed a coach arrive to make up numbers.
