Off to Iberia Day 11 - The Coast of Galicia

Saturday, 18 April 2026 21:05

My strategy for coastlines that I don’t know is to look for lighthouses and beaches and then check the general assessment of each. I then plan a practical route. Today was such a day. The countryside transformed from the mountains of Asturias to the hills of Galicia but the coast remains rugged but less canyon like. Here are a few lighthouses and a beach for good measure. I should note that Galicia is close to a Tesla free zone so I was surprised to find that my ibis Styles in A Coruna has a couple of Tesla destination chargers that appear on no planning information. I will use this facility tomorrow for sure. It was misty and drizzling when I left Oviedo but a fierce east wind was driving this away by the time I got to my first lighthouse, at Lugo where I also found an empty, overpriced Ionity charging station which was welcome. Close by is a spectacular beach, Praia des Castros where a lady and a dog plus another lady helped with scale as the beach sits beneath substantial cliffs. It was then a decent run to the far northwest coast for a couple more lighthouses including a bizarrely square one where the wind was strong enough to need a stance to prevent being blown over. “CAMPING GO HOME” says the garfitti which is in English! It was then on down to A Coruna for couple of nights at the aforementioned ibis. My room has a terrace, not a balcony. I guess, from the feel of the place, Saturday is not a busy night so they have pushed the boat out for me, a silver member. Thanks Accor.
