There is an aeroplane further down and it is a pretty unique Auster, which failed to sell to the services who chose to go the helicopter route for the roll that it suited. It flew over me in the Swiss Garden and sounded unusual. A nice machine. Most of todays post shows some of the butterflies around including the lovely brown argus (above), gatekeepers, small heath and plenty of different whites. The garden is looking pretty dry like most land around here but the warm weather has certainly been a bonus for some of the wildlife with a coot and a second brood chick out and about. There are a range of habitats and a little dry area seems to be coping well. Out on the meadow a heron was keeping a watchful eye on the Egyptian geese. A little overnight rain had made some interesting erosion patterns on the paths at the Lodge, this morning, where the garden is generally golden. It is amazing what a little pond can do. It is actually the swimming pool from when this was a country estate, not the RSPB headquarters.
