BRIAN REID PHOTOGRAPHER

Sunshine and shadows

I always take a camera when I am out sometimes only my iPhone, just in case there is something to photograph. I was down at Old Warden yesterday to check on my SVAS membership and with the sun shining I took a quick dash into the Swiss Garden to see if there were some nice views and there were. When I came out to get in the car I looked up the row of hangers and there was an immediate attraction, the collection’s Dehavilland DH60A and English Electric Wren outside Hanger 5 beautifully backlight by the winter sun. A quick dash up with my pal Paul Langshaw allowed a few pictures to be captured. This is one of the joys of the Shuttleworth Collection. It is not a museum but a collection of historic flying aircraft. Museums tend to be quite static although the better or larger ones also have temporary exhibits. That means that regular visits to museums tend to deliver the same experience whereas at Old Warden it is different every time, as the aircraft are moved around for maintenance and, of course, flying. It means that no two visits are ever the same. Here is a little sample of what was on show on a sunny January morning.
