Kristiansand to Aalborg in Denmark

I am back in the European Union in Aalborg after a long day but with little driving. Checking out late morning from the hotel, 20 minutes charging the car, sitting for about 2 hours to board the ferry from Kristiansand to Hirtshals and then resting for 3 3/4 hours in a comfy chair before the final 50 minute run to Aalborg. In other words a lot of sitting around. Not a lot to photograph today but here are a few snaps from the ferry and a few from the GoPro on the road. I should send a personal thank you to Nigel Farage and his mates for arranging a lovely quiet road from Hirtshals to Aalborg. Although there were at least a hundred cars and campervans on the ferry they were gone by the time I had spent 25 minutes getting through customs, boot open, bonnet open, cabin checked and interviewed. That only took a couple of minutes but I was the only car in a line of ‘dodgy’ vans, being the only UK registered vehicle on the boat. I know it is not big in the scheme of things but annoyingly unnecessary in the connected world that I prefer. This explains the headline photo! It is a big ferry and it was pretty stable but not the absolute smoothest crossing with a strong wind from the Southeast. As we headed out a hooded crow chose to ride the air from the ship. I just pointed my pocket camera, pressed the shutter and hoped to catch something, and I did. The cathedral stands out looking back to the city and in the middle is the fish market. The modern building to the right is an art gallery. The ship passes by little islands around Kristiansand. So it’s goodbye Norway hello Denmark as the flags change. Eventually it was time to get off and I noted mainly German number plates on my co-passengers’ cars. The highway to Aalborg was pretty much straight, smooth and fast with a speed limit of 130 kph (81mph) although most cars were generally running at 120 kph. By the time I got to Aalborg the traffic was light all the way to the hotel.
