France Spring 2025 Day 2 - Ouistreham to Chateauroux
Sunday, 16 March 2025 21:09
The day started bright and cold and as it progressed it became dark and cold. :-) A look at the weather radar at breakfast time showed rain and snow for the area around Chateauroux, my destination, but I try not to let the weather spoil my day. The plan was a sprint to the Loire at Tours with a quick charge at Le Mans before completing my journey to Chateauroux and that worked out well. I have visited many of the towns and chateaux on the Loire but only ever stopped to charge the car at Tours before so why not today. The river is running high but not flooded and it was getting a little help from the day with light rain as I wandered around the old town. It is nice if not spectacular but had a great boulangerie for lunch. I did stop briefly at the interestingly named Chateau-du-Loir. No chateau but a nice town hall and arrow straight main street. Here at Chateauroux I was glad to find a pub serving good food this evening and enjoyed a Salade Perigordine, with lots of duck bits as you would expect. Tasty and filling and not completely cold with nice crisp fried new potatoes. For reference the temperature essentially was below 4ºC all day and is currently 2ºC with a nice little shower of frozen rain for good measure. The hotel is nice and cosy. The first few pictures are from Tours. The Scottish word dreich sums up the conditions with a respite in St Martin’s Basilica. I’ve added a goose and straight street from Chateau-du-Loir, an interesting freighter aircraft at Chateauroux taken from the Tesla Supercharger location and the Cafe de Paris here in town. And just for those who like a little sunshine I will finish with a couple of snaps from Ouistreham this morning.
