France Spring 2025 Day 3 - Chateauroux to Le-Puy-en-Velay

No rain today just a little snow in the Massif Centrale. It has been a lovely day leaving the flat lands and heading up into the central mountains of the Auvergne. As I rolled south east from Chateauroux I stopped in a couple of towns on my way to Clermont Ferrand. My first stop was at a little town called Châteaumeillant. Typical of many small French towns there was a big church and some very old buildings but the treat was an old shop, 'Le P’tit Bazar Ricard’, with its iron awning over some intriguing windows as shown below. Note the panorama creates a distorted view as the shop front was not curved. Next was Montluçon an altogether larger place on the river Cher. There is a moderate sized medieval city in the heart of a modern university town with an impressive avenue leading away from the chateau. There are some interesting windows promoting a music museum which was actually closed when I passed. Worth a gentle stroll. It was then on to Clermont Ferrand for a charging stop and a coffee in the Novotel where the Superchargers are located. Before the fast run down to Le-Puy-en-Velay I took a loop out into the land of the volcanoes of the Auvergne including a stop at Puy-de-Dôme covered in snow. I did not make the hike to the summit as I had not the time but also the energy and the summit itself was in and out of snow showers. Le Puy is again in the mountains and is adorned with three (at least) volcanic cores which I will check out in the morning. The headline photo is Clermont Ferrand and the photos below follow the progress of the day. The Clermont Ferrand panorama and headline picture were taken at a vue point (Pierre Carrée) on the climb up to Puy-de-Dôme. I’ll finish with a couple of hotel room window photos. I opened the curtains at Chatearoux and the appartment opposite had an odd structure on the window pane whose purpose became clear when I got back from breakfast. Lucky cat. The final shot is here in Le Puy. The car park is under this square and it looked like I was lucky as the hotel has a couple of AC chargers. Sadly the charger would not talk to the car. Although a charge here would have been a bonus it is not a problem.
