It Does Rain Occasionally

Monday, 21 July 2025 10:07

After what seems a very long dry spell the weekend brought some heavy showers, returning a little colour to the grass in my garden. If you are quick enough it also creates opportunties  for lovely water droplets. Here are a few from the Swiss Garden. One of the peacocks didn’t mind the rain but its two pals preferred shelter in a marquee. There are routine events at Old Warden and on Sunday despite the rain there was a good turnout for a motorcycle auction and rallies for SAABs and a variety of British Leyland's Morris Oxford, Austin Cambridge range and the various Riley and Wolseley ‘luxury’ variants. I have happy memories of a trip with three pals from school around Europe in a Morris Oxford Traveller and a trip with Mum, Dad and Anne across Europe in an Austin Cambridge. Both cars broke. The first had a clutch failure and then the chasis failed at a rear spring mounting point. The latter had a spring fail in the South of France. Both situations just became learning experiences and helped cement threse trips in the memory. The picture shows the Cambridge at the tent in the South of France with Anne. Dad has the inevitable baguette with Mum coming out of the 'kitchen'. Thanks to the wonder of photography some of these memories were captured for posterity. Including a very rare image of Dad without a tie. The picture with Mum and Anne at the Rhone Glacier is not the kindest picture of Mum but still an indellible memory. I don’t recognise the long haired dude by the Med though. In wonder what happened to him over the past fifty odd years.
