Just Catching Up

I spent most of 10 years working on contracts at the RSPB HQ on the Lodge nature reserve in Bedfordshire and enjoyed the time immensely. The photo above shows the front of the main buildings and the first location that I worked in was by the windows below the clock in what was the stables. Over time I moved around spending some time in a new building behind in the gardens and latterly in an annex to the main house. To be sure of a parking spot you had to arrive early. Now with changes in working practices and staffing levels the HQ buildings are largely empty. Quite a change and one not unique to the RSPB. It was convenient, being only a short country drive from home and that convenience and familiarity ensures that I visit regularly for a walk and to grab a few snaps. At the moment it seems to be a land of Dartmoor ponies and gatekeeper butterflies with an oocasional red admiral along the way. I never get upset about the weather but there are times when it can have a significant impact on plans. I have been watching the forecast more intently this week as we, the Moggies Band, have an outdoor performance this evening in Bedford and so far so good. It is lucky it was not yesterday but a little rain did not spoil a walk in the Swiss Garden for more water droplets, sheltering peacocks and a coot family.
