Moth DH-60 Centenery Rally at Old Warden

Sunday, 3 August 2025 10:13

There was a two day event at the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden airfield at the end of last week. I went along on Friday to see this pretty unique collection. The event celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first production Dehavilland DH-60 Cirrus Moths and the 50th anniversary of the Dehavilland Moth Club. Of course being summer it was chilly, overcast with frequent medium to heavy rain showers. Various aircraft arrived through the morning and then the we had access to walk among the aircraft on the airfield. We dodged in and out of shelter, sometimes in the BAe Systems tent (event sponsor), in the cafe and also in one of the hangers. The headline picture attempts to give a sense of of the event with rain by a rare DH Fox Moth which is about to move to New Zealand. This latter point indicates that Dehavilland and the Moths are not just elements of UK history. I will not go into detail of the aircraft which will be of little interest to most preople who will see this blog post but concentrate on photographraphs which give a sense of of the day. They are not in any timeline order as the first two pictures below were, correctly, a highlight of the flying in the afternoon. A rare sight of 16 Dehavilland Moths flying in formation.
