On the road again, Bergen to Stavanger the long way!

I’m here in Stavanger on a grey and very quiet Sunday evening. As I am finding is typical, most restaurants are closed on a Sunday evening, very French. The good news is there is a local burger joint in a garage along the street. Imagine a shambolic McDonalds but with proper fresh hand made and good sized burgers, excellent fries and diet coke. I won’t tell you how much it cost as you may be eating and will probably choke! It was a good meal with almost a floor show as the locals came in to pick up their orders and many orders were simply put on a shelf when no-one claimed them. it has been a road day and although I picked a few spots along the way the light, as you will see, was not always kind, particularly at the impressive Latefossen. There was an 800 year old wooden church, in better light, another couple of waterfalls and a decent look at the Buarbreen Glacier. If you look at the photos of the glacier in Google maps you will see how far the glacier has retreated. Two very different ferries were features with the first on a quiet byway and the second on one of the main roads to Stavanger. Neither have a practical alternative. There were about a half dozen cars in the first and I would say 100 or so on the second with a few cars left to wait for the next ferry. We were packed in but all went well. of course you get your clump of traffic at the destination and most drivers just settled in to rolling along with the crowd for the last 80km to Stavanger. The route I chose took me up to the mountain resort of Roldal where a Tesla Supercharger was waiting. A ski resort like this, in summer, could be the set for a movie when all the people have gone from the earth. Pristine buildings and no people in sight. Not a great day for photography but road days are often needed to keep a road trip moving. I think an 800 year old wooden church deserveds top billing today. Then lets have a look at a glacier, some waterfalls, general scenery along the road, including a little industry, some ferry stuff and a few local shots in Stavanger to finish.

It’s not always linen tablecloths and fine dining but I have had many meals that were not as good.

We are just missing Clint Eastwood and John Malcovic in the hotel lift. :-)
