Trondheim to Sandnessjøen

Another long day is progressively taking me to the Arctic Circle. Norway is quite a big country. :-) It has been a beautiful run through varying countryside, alongside fjords, along valleys with manicured farmland, rivers and potential large waterfalls (in spring), through small largely industrial towns and not much traffic. It was a beautiful morning in Trondheim and that was pretty much it for the day. As the sun set here in the port of Sandnessjoen the moon came up and was an incredible sight from my hotel room window, such that it is the headline for today. Often when I include the moon in a photo I make it slightly larger to emphasise it but not this evening. I don’t think I have seen the moon this large in a normal photo that I have taken. As I’ve started here in this little port right out on the West coast and which I’ll visit again, briefly, when I sail back down the coast in a week or so, here are a few more pictures. I will then head back to Trondheim for a couple of photos at the hotel. I noticed a roadside point and on my sat-nav it identified it as the Tirpiz memorial, which peeked my curiosity and so stopped to have a look. It commemorates the allied airmen lost while attempting to sink this German battleship. Simple and to the point in a lovely spot. Remember Norway was neutral in WW2 so have no military connection. Along the E6 there are regular rest places and most if not all have immaculate toilets and often a nice view of the local ountryside as the one in the photos did. Much of the E6 today was a joy and there were even ocasional places to stop and enjoy the views. About 300km north of Trondheim I crossed from Tronland into North Norway and there was a very welome cafe, restaurant, shop and toilets. I often can get a little sleepy mid afternoon and was planning to stop at the next rest area when, lo and behold, this wonderous place appeared securely guarded by a Troll. Would you believe I had a Costa coffee! From there it was about 100km to a Supercharger and then a further 65 km to get me here just after 5pm. It is certainly one of the most scenic drives I have taken including its variety. I have added a few frames from the GoPro to give a little bit of an idea.
