I Do Like to Be Beside The Seaside!

Time for a visit to a new place, for me, at the seaside, Dovercourt in Essex. I have been close by when taking the ferry from and to Harwich which is essentially the same location but on the other side of the peninsula. My pal, Paul Langshaw, and I talked about a visit at the end of last year with a specific focus on the ‘leading light’ pair of lighthouses, built in the 1860s and used up to 1917 to guide ships into the Stour estuary to the port of Harwich. They are in serious need of renovation which should happen this year. Paul was keen to take some ‘fine art’ photos using very long exposures creating soft diffuse water and sky. You can see Paul above and immediately below working his magic. From Dovercourt beach we grabbed lunch in a local cafe where a chap about my age suggested we take a look at Ha’penny pier on the front in Harwich. An excellent tip. We watched a Trinity House servicing boat manoeuvring into its dock, handling an increasing South West wind. Lot’s to see. We then wandered back to the beach with plenty more to see and photograph including the view across the Stour to the container port at Felixstowe. Then it was time for a final ‘fine art’ stop at Dovercourt with the channel now just past high tide. A fine day out. I should note that Paul and I could be considered a model for the world. Paul uses Nikon cameras and I use Canon but we can still get on without any abuse or fighting. :-)
