It is always a busy time at Old Warden around an airshow and last weekend was no exception. It was the flying proms on Saturday. I was not at the show but popped along on Friday to see the preparations and again on Sunday to see some of the visitors who would be heading home. These are a selection of photos across the weekend. There are a couple of photos that I hoped never to take, as the famous DH-88 Comet crashed on landing on Saturday evening. The pilot is OK but the plane, assuredly, is not. There is a long road ahead for the team to get this iconic aircraft back on the flight line. (For those interested in the aircraft’s illustrious history follow this link). There were a few interesting aircraft visiting including a number from Germany, one from Austria and another from Switzerland. It appeared that the gentlemen with the Dornier “Dornado” had come prepared for a party if the beer barrels were any indication. There was activity confirming some of the collections planes were ready to perform. The collection’s Avro 504K was doing some engine running on Friday along with the first engine runs for the, recently rebuilt, Percival Mew Gull racer. As usual the team have done a fabulous job of restoration. I guess one of the unusual machines was the Klemm with its enormous wing span. It has visited before but is still a treat to behold. Anyway here are some photos to give an idea of last weekend at Old Warden Aerodrome.
