I popped down to Old Warden yesterday and found myself in the middle of the Vintage Aircraft Club Fly In. This is a free event for the public, not including entrance to the collection and the Swiss Garden, and that had attracted a large crowd. A brief visit to the garden confirmed to me that, either there were plenty of members of the SVAS along or that plenty of people took the opportunity to enjoy the main paid attractions at the aerodrome. It was a treat to walk the length of the flight line encountering representatives of Hornet Moth, Leopard Moth, Cessna, Piper, Stinson, Travelair, Auster, Luscombe, Boeing… and the list goes on. The headline image is a new plane for me, a Dehavilland Dragonfly. It shares a common appearance with the, more famous, Dragon Rapide. You can compare below. Here are a few snaps of some rare and some not so rare aircraft that took the effort to visit our locale. Some of the vintage vehicles don’t fly, like the giant Bentley. Tere is always colour in the garden even if it has had almost no rain for 2 months.
