One In and Three Out

Just back from Anderton’s in Guildford with a Gibson J45, above. I have always loved my PRS SE Angelus which, after 11 years of hard work is entitled to a rest. A Gibson J45, essentially designed in the 1940s with some up to dated technology, may not be a pretty looking but has earned its reputation as the workhorse guitar across the music industry. Differnet tone woods and configuration create a guitar with a completely different tone form the Angelus. With the two on deck I can cover more appropriate guitar parts. To ease the financial pain that comes from an instrument hand made in Bozeman Montana I traded in 3 of my existing stock of guitars. Two are very rarely played, the first two below, that is my Yamaha AEX500 and an Ozark resonator slude guitar. The other was my PRS SE Tonare which was bought to take over main duties from the Angelus. It has never quite managed that so is essentially a direct swap for the Gibson. At Anderton’s there was some excitement as the guitar guys had not seen the J45 HiFi DNA version which was only released this month. They were blown away by the raw plugged in sound, as was I. Now it is time to get used to the slightly thicker neck and shorter scale. That won’t take long. :-)
